1704455835 Adaptation of the Relational Uncertainty in Marriage Scale into Turkish

The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Marital Relational Uncertainty Scale (MRIS) (Knobloch, 2008), which was developed to measure the uncertainty couples experience in their marital relationships. The study included 353 individuals aged 22-68 years (M = 36.70, SD = 6.39) who had been married for at least 1 year. Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients for the subscales of the scale ranged from .91 to .95. In addition, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (Carleton et al., 2007) and the Marital Life Scale (Tezer, 1996) were used to test the convergent and divergent validity of the scale, and the relationships were found to be significant and in the expected direction. In the adaptation study, it was found that the factor structure of the scale differed in some aspects from the original form. It was discussed that this finding may be related to cultural context and collectivist tendencies. The current study also has some limitations such as the small sample size and unbalanced gender distribution when examining the test-retest reliability. In conclusion, the results showed that the Turkish version of the Marital Relational Uncertainty Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used in studies on marriages in Turkey.
